Well, we made it through 2022. Who would have guessed? Reading and writing were tumultuous this year, to say the least. Jette did a lot of reading. Gen did a lot of writing. This is why we’re a good team. Check out Another Book on the Shelf’s Duo on the 2022 Holiday Wrap-Up episode for thoughts on 2022.
It’s absolutely time to put 2022 to bed, so let’s look to 2023 and, hopefully some great things.
Another Book on the Shelf’s Duo on their Reading Goals
We’re keeping things simple in 2023. Read books. That’s all.
Jette’s 2023 Reading Goals
- My official reading goal is 50 books. I’m sitting at 59 books currently, with six more that I REALLY want to finish before the end of the year. I don’t want to get cocky though with my 2023 goal because I’m sure a slump is in my future.
- Just like this past year, I want 20 of my 50 books to be graphic novels. Focusing on graphic novels during #SpookySZN was definitely a highlight this year and a tradition I’m going to continue.
- I want 12 of my books to be audiobooks. That’s only one per month and will get me outside, as listening to audiobooks while on a walk is my go-to.
Gen’s 2023 Reading Goals
- For once, I’m not giving myself a number goal. I had a very modest (for me) goal of 40 books this year, and I’m not going to hit it. I’ve barely read anything in the last six months, so my main goal for 2023 will simply be to read in the first place.
- That being said, I do want to read through a lot of my unread books in 2023. I have so many titles sitting on my shelf that I barely even glanced at this year, so I want to give them some love.
- I want to read more books on writing. I have a few on my shelf that I’m looking forward to, so I want to give them a prominent place in my reading rotation.

Another Book on the Shelf’s 2023 Writing Goals
Jette’s 2023 Writing Goals
- Write. It’s that simple.
- Okay, it’s not that simple. I have two stories almost completely planned, plus other things that need to be finished, so that’s what I’m focusing on.
- Remember when we made the 52 short story writing prompts? I’m going to try to do some of those too.
Gen’s 2023 Writing Goals
- Edit my novel manuscript. Yes. Edit it. Because the first draft is finally done! It’s an exhilarating feeling, even if the next step in the process is a bit daunting.
- Find an agent. I know this isn’t writing technically, but it is an important part of publishing this book. So here it goes on my list of goals.
- Decide which story to write next! I’ve got some options. There’s the multiverse love story that is written but needs overhauling. Or the selkie story that’s been percolating for a while. Or maybe I’ll dive into my brand new portal fantasy idea. In all likelihood, all three will get some of my attention next year.
Another Book on the Shelf’s Exciting 2023 Plans – Stay Tuned!
It’s no secret that 2022 hasn’t been the greatest year for Another Book on the Shelf’s Duo, so we’re looking ahead to 2023 as a fresh start. We’re still working out all our plans for the podcast, but you know there will be more of what we love — that means interviews with other writers and creatives, more graphic novels, more book-to-film adaptations, and more diving into new books we never would have read without this podcast. It’s going to be amazing!
