In Episode 74, we’re teaming up once again with Coach House Books to discuss one of their recent releases, And Miles To Go Before I Sleep by Jocelyne Saucier, translated by Rhonda Mullins.
Coach House Books is one of our favourite publishers. We always love the books they send us, and this one is no exception. The story follows an unnamed narrator tracking down the story of Gladys, a woman who up and leaves her small town of Swastika one day without a word to her neighbours. It’s also about the Northern trains in Canada, small communities, and people coming together in unexpected ways.

August is Women in Translation Month, so this book is a perfect fit.
The title comes from Robert Frost’s poem “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening.” It really fits with the themes of the book.
We’ve read quite a few books translated by Rhonda Mullins, including one of our favourites, Paper Houses by Dominique Fortier, and The Imago Stage by Karoline Georges.
