I can’t lie, I wasn’t really looking forward to Ky I can’t lie, I wasn’t really looking forward to Kye and Fallon’s story. I loved them in the rest of the series but I didn’t have that deep yearning that I have had with other books in the series.

No surprise here - @catherinecowlesauthor sucked me in so hard and I am so glad we got their story. It was such a great end to the story and I loved learning about Kye’s background.

What Catherine Cowles series should I read now while we wait for the next Starlight Grove installment?

We’ve adventured together a few times since the last hangout: we did @torontowots , which was a blast as always, and we went to the @xmadmx photography exhibit (and no, Jette hasn’t recovered yet; life changed!).

Our next episode is our annual spooky season pick (as if we’re not spooky all year round). We’ll be chatting about Never Whistle At Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology.

Still shaking our heads and thinking about how we’ve grown the podcast and our little community here ☺️Have you been with us for all 8 years? Let us know your fave episodes below!

The way I wanted to slap Kit, like, dude… pay attention. I know how Darcy felt and I’m so glad she now has a down-bad man who is obsessed with her ☺️ and more importantly, that she found herself and was able to express herself exactly as she wanted 💜

I have read all of @rachelharrisonsghost’s books, I have read all of @rachelharrisonsghost’s books, and this was definitely the most fun. I found myself smiling and giggling as I walked around the city. Each new day was shocking and surprising and kept me on my toes. Somehow, Rachel is able to always come up with fresh takes on horror tropes and stories. Love it so much!

If you haven’t ventured into RH territory yet, this is a great place to start (and The Return - my fave).

Carl's Doomsday Scenario finally came in so I can continue on my Dungeon Crawler Carl journey.

I can't resist a Stephen Graham Jones novel. Especially in October. Especially when he's playing with the slasher genre. And it's only the first in a trilogy, so there's more to come when I finish it.

And since we're reading Never Whistle At Night for our spooky October episode, I'm hoping to at least read a few from the second collection, Back for Blood, before we record. (Also giving slasher vibes with that title. I know what I like!)
I finally had time to read the last book in the Wi I finally had time to read the last book in the Windy City Series, Rewind It Back. Rio was one of my favourite recurring characters throughout the series and I loved getting to see his love story play out. He and Hallie had the sweetest relationship, and while I don't always love flashbacks in second chance romance, I loved seeing how their love grew since they were kids.

My only complaint was that Rio never finds out that Hallie has been drinking almond milk in her lattes this whole time just so he can have a sip! I can only hope it comes up at some point if they make a guest appearance in Liz Tomforde's next series, which she sets up at the end of this one.

Going to be counting down the days until Cardinal Rule is released on March 2 next year! In the meantime, time to reread In Her Own League?

Writing the Neighbourhood was a generous gift from @bookhugpress, a collection of ten essays by local writers about the neighborhoods in Toronto that they know amd love.

And I couldn't resist picking up this poetry collection, Re: Wild Her by Shannon Webb-Campbell, while I was at the @bookhugpress booth!

And finally, another essay collection called Women, Walking, this one from @coachhousebooks, all about walking. This one mixes essays with comics and other styles and I can't wait to dive in!

I might have to snag a copy of Rebecca Solnit's Wanderlust: A History of Walking to make up a little syllabus for myself on the subject.

It was so much fun to be back with these characters and in their world of spirits and brujx. We wish we could have spent more time with them. Maybe a book for our girl Maritza next? We would be all over that!

Do you believe in spirits? 👻 Have you seen a spirit?

While in Berlin I did manage to read Rebecca Solni While in Berlin I did manage to read Rebecca Solnit's A Field Guide to Getting Lost. It's a collection of essays all centered around various themes of loss and what is means to be lost. She weaves personal narrative with history in a way that I absolutely love.

I actually started reading this on my Kobo, as a loan from the library, but ended up finding a copy at a little bookstore and decided to buy it.

In between each essay, she writes an interlude of sorts titled "The Blue of Distance." In the first section, she recounts the history of painters rendering the blue of distance in their work, and then the use of cyanotypes in photography. Images rendered in blues.

I went to a flea market later in the day after buying the book, and there was an artist selling her cyanotypes. Each original includes on the back the artist's signature, the date it was made, and the length of the exposure of that specific piece. Even when playing with the same image, the different exposure times mean no two are alike.

I love a good bit of synchronicity, so of course I had to buy one. The one that I bought belongs to a series of under water images she concluded in the summer. More blue. It's maybe one of my favourite art pieces that I've ever bought.

I didn't get nearly as much reading done as I was I didn't get nearly as much reading done as I was hoping to on my vacation. It was too hot in France for my brain to concentrate (I ended up rereading The Long Game).

But I did get to hang out in some cafés in Berlin, where the weather was perfectly autumnal, and managed to get at least some reading time in between chats with my sister. I could spend my life just drinking coffee and reading in this city.
