Episode 203 is another instalment in our Page to S Episode 203 is another instalment in our Page to Screen series. This time, we read Clockers by Richard Price and watched Spike Lee’s film adaptation of the same name.

We loved how the book and the film each have their own distinct vibe and definitely need to watch more Spike Lee films. (And maybe rewatch The Wire?) Richard Price has also written screenplays, including The Wire, The Deuce, and the Martin Scorsese film, The Color of Money, for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

This was Mekhi Phifer’s first film and he got the part through an open casting call. Wild!

Highly recommend this combo of book and film.

Do you prefer to read at a coffee shop or at home? Do you prefer to read at a coffee shop or at home?

I love the idea of reading in a coffee shop, but the ADHD always gets me. I people-watch. I listen to the sounds of a cafe. I take pictures of my book and my coffee. I always feel like I have to be ‘on’ for some reason.

So back to the couch for me. I have a reading chair in my reading corner. I have another comfy chair by the window. But lately, it’s just been my raggedy old couch and my romance book against the world 😆

“A sexy Hades-inspired gay rom-com, in which the former god of the Underworld turned grumpy funeral director must find a loophole in the Immortal Retirement Act that banished him to Earth, until the florist next door begins to unravel all his carefully laid plans.”

In Episode 202, we talk about Jette’s book club pi In Episode 202, we talk about Jette’s book club pick, In Her Own League by @liztomforde.author ! As you may know, we’re deep in our romance era right now—especially sports romance—and we loved Monty and Reese so much!

In Her Own League is a spin-off of the best-selling Windy City Series, and Jette needs you all to read the series now if you haven’t already. What is the Windy City version of “Re”Heated Rivalry? Windier City? Whatever it’s called - Jette is rereading and relistening on a constant loop 🤭

Emmett “Monty” Montgomery is definitely based on real-life MLB manager Gabe Kapler, right? 🥵 (The elevator… the desk(s)…) You’re welcome. We tried to find our own baseball romance stories at a @bluejays game, but alas… ☹️

Interconnected romance series for the win every time! We can’t wait for Liz Tomforde’s next series, Wilder Woods, which takes place in California and follows the Wilder siblings, coming out next spring.

Have you headed to the Windy City? Do you love Reese and Emmett as much as we do? Tell us below!!

It’s Summerween, baby 👻🎃 A Spell to Wake the Dead It’s Summerween, baby 👻🎃

A Spell to Wake the Dead by Nicole Lesperance is the perfect mix of mystery and witchy. Mazzy and Nora dabble in tarot and witchcraft. They end up finding a dismembered body after casting a spell at the beach. Nora feels like the woman’s spirit is in her. They find another body! Things get more dangerous, and it’s hard to know which adults to trust. Oh, and there might be a cult behind everything. 🦇

We went to a Jays game last night because I guess We went to a Jays game last night because I guess all the sports romance has turned us into sports people now? Truly the plot twist we never saw coming and I'll keep saying it.

I read The Prospects while I was on my trip to the East Coast and I loved it. It had a bit of enemies to lovers/friends to lovers/second chance romance combo thing going on, which is to say Gene and Luis were once friends but had a falling out and now that they're on the same minor league baseball team, they get a chance at romance.

They also might get a chance at the majors, even if that complicates their budding relationship. Of course, it all works out in the end, and Gene Ionescu gets to break down some barriers as a trans baseball player knocking out a bunch of firsts in the sport. Overall, it's a sweet story of Gene and Luis finding their way to each other and towards their dreams, both old and new.

"Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie because it's Gene's walk-up song 🎵

We both fell in love with The Honeys audiobook - the buzzing and hints of forest noises had us hooked. @scholastic seriously makes the best audio productions, and The Dead of Summer is outstanding. The recorded interrogation sessions? Gah!

I listened to most of this while sitting on a giant swing looking out over the Boston harbour, thinking about what might be beneath the surface. I will never forget that afternoon.
