In Episode 43 Gen and Jette interview Sidura Ludwig and chat about her new collection of short stories. You Are Not What We Expected offers an intimate portrait of a Toronto Jewish community in these interconnected stories. Ludwig paints a vivid picture of love, loss, hope, and disappointment.
We loved having Sidura Ludwig on the show. It was such a pleasure to talk about her book, as well as writing routines and growing up in Winnipeg. Ludwig also offered incredible insight into the life of a working writer, and what it means to be successful. We hope you enjoy our conversation as much as we did!
Thank you to House of Anansi Press for sending us an advance reading copy of You Are Not What We Expected.
Show Notes
Winnipeg might be a deep freeze but it breeds creativity through its chilly isolation.
Art is more accessible in Winnipeg because it’s small. So check out The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre. The Winnipeg Fringe Festival is MASSIVE!
Sidura used to work at McNally Robinson, Canada’s largest indie bookstore. (And Jette used to go there while in university!)
