One day while working together in a cafe, Gen and Jette were talking about books (of course). They realized that, in spite of their many similarities, they read very different books. In order to get themselves out of their comfort zones of reading, Gen and Jette started a book club.
Cut to several months later, they had yet to discuss any of the books they’d read. While sipping lattes in one of their favourite coffee shops, and working on their respective writing projects, they once again started talking about the books and writers that inspire them.
In an effort to actually talk about the books they were both reading, as well as write more, this podcast was born. It exists so they will actually talk about their book club books, include more people in the discussion of those books, and have a chance to grow writing routines and projects.
Meet the Podcasters
Jette moved to Toronto in 2006 after studying film in Winnipeg. She produces the podcast and manages the social media content, as well as co-hosting. Jette reads mostly memoirs, graphic novels, and thrillers but you know there’s some YA books in there as well. Her favourite authors are Dennis Lehane and Chuck Klosterman.
Currently, you’ll find her perfecting her morning pour-over coffee routine and practicing yoga everyday. If she’s on the move and you look in her bag, you’ll find a reusable travel mug, a metal straw, a camera, and a notebook filled with ideas for the short story collection she is writing.
Gen moved to Toronto in 2009 to study baking and pastry arts at George Brown College. In addition to co-hosting, she manages the website and newsletter. Gen reads mostly fantasy, contemporary fiction, and memoirs, and she has a soft spot for YA. Her favourite authors are Donna Tartt and Maggie Stiefvater.
Currently you’ll find her tangled in her latest knitting project or one of her other many hobbies. On her writing desk you’ll find a scented candle, a mug of tea, notebooks filled with details about her current novel, and her collection of Muji pens.
