Another Book on the Shelf
In 2018, we started a book club, but we never talked about the books, so a few months later we started a podcast to actually talk about the books! Now, here we are, almost a decade later, still talking about books and writing. All our old favourites are still here—spooky horror, queer lit, page-to-screen adaptations—but our reading and writing have expanded in ways we never expected.
We have the privilege of working with incredible Canadian indie publishers, including Toronto locals Coach House Books (Paper Houses, our beloved) and House of Anansi Press. We get to chat with authors like Stephanie Cooke and Sidura Ludwig about their work and creative processes. We read a lot of novels, but we also love short stories, essay collections, poetry, and memoirs. We even have a newfound love for genres we never thought we’d read. Hello, romance!
As for our own creative projects, we’re finding inspiration everywhere. Our writing styles have grown right alongside our podcast, giving us new ideas for formatting, story shapes, length, and even drawing. The possibilities are endless. We’re going to keep exploring them, reading new books, talking to new people, and writing stories exactly the way we want to.

Meet the Podcasters
If you’re looking for Jette, she’s probably making coffee, picking up books from the library, or searching for a new art workshop to take. Anything that leads her to the dream Patti Smith life she’s craving. She loves knitting, film photography, and the NYT games. Jette mostly reads thrillers, horror, and much to her surprise these days, there are a LOT of romance books being read. Memoirs and craft books (Reference books? Textbooks? Books that make you think and learn things!) are her other main reads. Her favourite authors are Jedidiah Jenkins, Liz Tomforde, Rachel Harrison, and James Tynion IV.
Gen has worked as a bookseller, pastry chef, barista, waiter, and background actor, among other odd jobs, but is a writer first and foremost. At any given time, they’re working on multiple short stories and mulling over at least three novels in varying states of progress. Gen reads just about anything, but has a particular soft spot for queer lit, speculative fiction, horror, and apparently sports romance. (Heated Rivalry is a gateway drug.) Their favourite authors are Julia Armfield, Stephen Graham Jones, Shirley Jackson, and Mariana Enriquez. When not reading, writing, or podcasting, you’ll find Gen deep in a knitting project or in an acting class, probably with a mug of coffee or tea within easy reach.
